Before you start
What you are building
Faction organizes AI access around three layers: your organization (billing and connections), resources (integrations, documents, and codebases connected once), and workspaces (named bundles with their own members, tool permissions, and MCP URL). Most teams start with one workspace for marketing, sales, or a project squad.
01
Create your organization
Sign up and name the company account that will own billing, connections, and workspaces.
- Open https://app.runfaction.com/signup and create your account.
- Pick an organization name. This becomes your team subdomain on Faction.
- Invite teammates from org settings. They sign in at https://app.runfaction.com/login and join the same org.
- Roles at the org level are owner, admin, and member. Owners and admins manage connections and workspaces.
02
Connect integrations at the org level
Authenticate HubSpot, Notion, Slack, and your other tools once. OAuth tokens stay on Faction, not on member laptops.
- In the admin dashboard, open Resources and choose an integration from the catalog.
- Complete the OAuth flow for that service. Faction stores the connection for the whole org.
- Repeat for each tool your first workspace will need. You do not reconnect per person or per workspace.
- After connecting, review which tools from that integration are available. You will toggle them per workspace in a later step.
03
Add documents and files
Upload the PDFs, markdown, and docx files your team already trusts so they can be bundled into workspaces.
- From Resources, upload brand guidelines, campaign briefs, runbooks, or policy docs.
- Supported formats include PDF, markdown, Word, and spreadsheets.
- Documents live at the org level. Each workspace chooses which files belong in its bundle.
- Uploaded docs are searchable from chat once included in a workspace.
04
Create a workspace
A workspace is a named bundle of resources with its own members, tool permissions, and MCP URL.
- Go to Workspaces and create a new workspace.
- Name it for the team or project, for example Marketing, Sales, or Q2 Launch.
- Faction provisions a dedicated MCP server for that workspace automatically.
- You can run multiple workspaces in one org. Each gets a separate URL and permission set.
05
Bundle resources into the workspace
Choose which integrations, documents, and codebases this team should share in chat.
- Open the workspace and select connected integrations to include, such as Notion, HubSpot, and Slack.
- Add the documents this team needs. Leave out files only other groups should see.
- If engineering repos belong here, attach codebases from your org library after admins add them in Resources.
- Members assigned to this workspace only get the resources you enable in the bundle.
06
Set tool permissions
Turn individual tools on or off for each integration in this workspace. Admins control what AI can read or change.
- For each bundled integration, expand the tool list and enable what this team needs.
- Example for marketing: allow Notion search and read, disable page creation.
- Example for sales: allow HubSpot contact and deal reads, disable bulk updates until you are ready.
- Permission changes take effect immediately. No redeploy or local config edits required.
07
Assign workspace members
Add the teammates who should access this bundle. Everyone else in the org stays out unless you invite them.
- From the workspace, add members by email or pick from existing org members.
- Members only see workspaces they are assigned to.
- Admins can review workspace activity to understand how tools are being used.
- When someone leaves the team, remove them from the workspace to revoke access.
08
Connect Slack or copy the workspace URL
Each workspace works natively in Slack or exposes one URL for external AI apps. Same bundle, same permissions as in-app chat.
- Open workspace settings and copy the MCP server URL.
- It follows the pattern https://yourorg.runfaction.com/mcp/{workspace-id}.
- Your org slug replaces yourorg. The workspace id is unique to this bundle.
- In Slack, DM the Faction bot or mention @faction in a channel.
- Or paste the URL into ChatGPT, Claude Desktop, Cursor, or any MCP client your team already uses.
09
Open team chat and verify access
Teammates sign in on your org subdomain and start a conversation with workspace tools enabled.
- Members open your org at https://yourorg.runfaction.com and start chat.
- All accessible workspaces are enabled by default. Teammates can toggle workspaces off in the chat header to stay in scope.
- Ask a question that requires a connected tool, for example a Notion brief or HubSpot segment.
- If something is missing, an admin adjusts the workspace bundle or tool toggles and the whole team gets the update.
